Cooking Class FAQs

Are all classes hands-on?

We offer two types of classes, hands-on and demonstration. The majority of classes will be demonstration. Some classes may have a hands-on segment.

Do we get to eat in the classes?

Yes! You will be served a sample of all the dishes being prepared. Some classes will have a series of dishes, many will prepare a complete meal (entree, side dish, dessert).  For most classes it is enough for a light meal.

Do participants get unlimited wine with classes?

Most of our evening dinner classes we will offer up to 2 glasses of wine per adult student. We will always have infused water available.

 What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable, casual clothing. For the hands-on classes, please wear comfortable, close-toed shoes for safety reasons. Long hair should be tied back or covered by a scarf or hat. If you own an apron, you are free to bring one. We have new aprons available for purchase in the store; otherwise loaner aprons are available.

What do I need to bring?

For most of our classes, all you need to bring is yourself (and possibly a pen and paper, if you’d like to take notes).  For hands-on classes (such as decorating classes), please bring a container to transport your finished products.

What are the age requirements to attend a class?

Unless otherwise advertised, the recommended minimum age for general classes is 12 years old. Learn more about Kids in the Kitchen Camp here. Those under 16 years of age must have a parent register and attend the class with them. Alternative ages may be considered at management discretion (i.e.,Scouts troop private party, etc), for details, please contact events coordinator Tate Phillip.

What time should I arrive for the class?

Check in starts 15 minutes prior to the class. Seating is first come first serve.

What if I can't make my class?

Cancellation of your reservation 48 hours or more in advance of the class entitles you to a full refund or you may receive store credit which can be applied to another class or merchandise. Please call The Wire Whisk at 920-739-3663. You may also send someone in your place (please notify The Wire Whisk if this is your intention). Like a theater or sports event, there are no refunds or credits with less than 48 hours notice as instructors need to plan and purchase foods without last minute changes. If you do not attend the class and send no one in your place you may still pick-up the class packet which includes the class information and recipes as well as, your 10% discount coupon that entitles you to a 1 time purchase discount of 10% on merchandise or classes when used within 1 week after the class.

 How long are the classes?

Unless otherwise noted classes are from 6:00 to 7:30pm. Most classes last 1-2 hours.

Are the classes designed for specific skill levels?

Most classes are designed for beginner to intermediate level cooks. Should a class be specifically for either beginner or advanced it would be noted in the class name and advertising. Please note: instructors reserve the right to change recipes if needed, based on ingredients available at the time of the class

Do I have to register in advance?

All classes require advance registration and payment. We recommend that you sign up at least a week in advance to guarantee a seat in the class.  If you discover the class a day or two before it is scheduled, you can always call and check if there are seats still available.

How do I register for a class?

It is easy! You may call 920-739-3663, stop at the store: 767 N Casaloma Drive in Appleton, WI or register online at www.thewirewhisk.comYou may pay with cash, check, gift card, store credit or credit card. Payment is required at the time of registration.

How much do the classes cost?

The majority of our classes are $40-$55. This can change based on the type of class, instructor and other variables but the cost of a class is always posted when a class is advertised.

What is included in the class fee?

Class attendees receive recipe handouts, sample-size servings of prepared recipes, and a “Class Discount” of 10% off all products or additional classes purchased the day of the class. Please note: class discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts or sale prices.

Do you have a waiting list for sold out classes?

If a class is full, we will begin a waiting list and contact you if an opening becomes available. If we have a large number of people on the waiting list we may schedule an additional class.

What happens if my class is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel any class with insufficient enrollment. If The Wire Whisk cancels a class, you will be notified by a member of the store staff and/or by email and a refund or credit will be issued.  Whenever possible, classes will be rescheduled. If your class has a date change, all previously registered attendees will be offered the first chance to re-register.

Do you offer private classes for groups?

We have Private Group Classes for up to 16 participants; the fee is approximately $300 plus $40 per person. This includes 3-4 recipes with several menus to choose from. It is a demonstration-style class with sample-size servings, plus, recipe packets and coupons for a 10% discount off purchases the day of the class. These private group classes are great forparties such as birthdays, showers, “Ladies Night Out” or corporate team-building events.
